Volunteer

  • A mentor is someone who is:

    Self sufficient

    Has time

    Has energy

    Shares their experiences both positive and negative

    Guides mentees in the right direction

    Mentors will also:

    Support mentees with appropriate boundaries

    Be intentional in utilizing tasks to enhance mentees experiences and skills

    Be able to work with mentees to maintain organized, inclusive and collaborative environments for all

    Be resourceful and intentional in enhancing the mentees social capital

    Be an active listener

    Allow mentees to reflect and develop their own ideas

    Help mentees think through the complexities of issues and respect whatever conclusions they reach

    Help mentees think about their goals and possibilities for the future

    Identify steps to achieve them

    Celebrate the mentees progress, strengths and successes

  • All mentors are required to complete a background check.

  • Volunteers should have experience with youth, ideally male youth between the ages of 11-16.

  • Upon completion of the Volunteer Form and background check, a representative of JDPI will contact you via email for next steps.
